Increase In Private School Fees

Published / Last Updated on 13/09/2007

Following the trend for price increases, the fees for private schooling for our children have increased by 41 per cent since 2002.  The average annual cost of private school day fees is now £9,627, compared with £6,820 in 2002.  The fees for boarding pupils have increased more than twice the amount for day pupils, with the annual cost for boarding £20,970, compared with £15,364 in 2002.

Teachers and lecturers, writers, computer programmers, scientist, police officers are just a few who, on average, can no longer afford fees without help from other sources.

Our view

These increases are above inflation and so it has made it harder for the average worker to be able to afford to send their children to private schools.  The gap between those that can and those that cannot.
