Housing Boom Great For Pensioners

Published / Last Updated on 21/10/2007

The value of homes for retired property owners is reviewed every three months by Prudential, who has launched a pensioner property equity index.

The research collected by Prudential indicates that this band of pensioners has seen the value of their properties increase by over £151million per day between May 2006 and June 2007.  As expected, London has seen the biggest increase of £64.32billion.

Our view

As you would expect, those who have been on the property ladder the longest have the most equity and are therefore making the greatest gains.  In addition, it also gives pensioners greater flexibility when looking at downsizing or equity release schemes.
