House Prices Barely Down January

House Prices Barely Down January

House prices were barely down in January according to figures from Nationwide.

House prices fell for the third consecutive month.  The cost of the average house had gone down by £1607 from £182,080 in December to £180,473 in January.

Although house prices have now fallen for three consecutive months, the price of a typical property is still 4.2 per cent higher than a year ago.

Our view

Interest rate increases and then interest rates cuts have promoted this staganation.  We suggest more of the same with some falls throughout the first half of 2008.
