Home Seller Pack Rules

Published / Last Updated on 18/11/2003

Sellers' packs are back on the Government's agenda again and this time it looks like they will be introduced.

Keith Hill the housing minister confirmed that after many debates, the Government was pressing ahead with this section of the Housing Bill.  Mr Hill said: "The bill is a key reform in helping to deliver sustainable communities and by protecting the most vulnerable and helping deliver decent homes and places for all".

We have to say we do not agree that sellers' packs will help here.

Our View

Sellers' packs are, in theory, a fabulous idea. They will provide a possible purchaser with all of the information they need about the property and hopefully cut down on the time the whole process takes.  They should also help to cut down the stress involved with moving home.

But, they will be expensive to put together and many mortgage lenders will more than likely have their own stipulations regarding information to be included.  If one, simple and cost effective pack could be introduced that was acceptable by all mortgage lenders, there would be no problem. This is unlikely and could make using the packs complicated.
