Home energy efficiency is not important for many London property buyers.
Two-thirds of consumers looking to buy in London ranked home energy efficiency savings as their lowest priority out of a list of 12 factors including location, size of the property and its condition. As there are so many people competing for every square inch of property in London, they do not have the luxury to search by carbon output i.e. home energy efficiency.
Since the implementation of Home Information Packs and Home Energy Efficiency Performance Certificates last August, the average home energy efficiency rating for a significant amount of properties is an E, with the lowest grading being G.
Our view
Home information packs have raised the awareness of home energy efficiency and indeed home energy inefficiency. This will ultimately mean that home owners will be incentivised to make the changes that are needed to their home energy efficiency.
