Haunted Homes In Demand

Published / Last Updated on 06/11/2005

While people used to go to great lengths to ward off evil spirits, hanging horseshoes and charms or employing priests to ward off demons, research from Portman has found that these days, most people wouldn't be put off buying a house if it was rumoured to be haunted!

One in three people claim to have lived in a house that was either haunted or rumoured to be haunted!  It seems that most people who live in the UK don't mind the extra guests, but if buyers found out that the previous owner had died there, they would want the price of the property to be lowered, while eighty two per cent would purchase a property that was number 13 in the road, and 37% would even buy a house if it had a nasty history or a grave yard underneath!

If it did turn out that a property was haunted, almost half of the people surveyed would stay in their home, while 24% say they would stay put, but hire an exorcist to get rid of the ghosts!
