Greater Education for Personal Accounts
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has called for more concerted action on educating the market before the introduction of personal accounts in 2012. Director of life and savings at the ABI, Maggie Craig, said “We need a really good campaign as we cannot afford to wake up on 5 April 2012 and find that employers do not know anything about it”.
She said the ABI’s membership would work together with the government or the Personal Accounts Delivery Authority (PADA) on communication. Our membership is very good at communicating with employers, but with personal accounts, we will be marketing to pensions refuseniks, who won’t be hollering and screaming if their employees don’t get enrolled into a scheme. We need a concerted message that pensions are good for you, and that doesn’t confuse employers.
