£35,000 Lifetime Care Fees Payments Cap Recommended.
The Dilnot report published today recommends a cap of £35,000 on individuals’ lifetime contributions towards their social care costs. This will replace the current method where liability for care costs is means tested and potentially unlimited.
Also instead of the existing system where people pay all their care costs until they have assets of less than £23,250, proposals to increase the means-tested threshold would mean those people with high care costs would only pay up to a set amount and after that the state would pay their care costs.
