French Inheritance Tax Improved

Published / Last Updated on 19/10/2007

The French Government is increasing its threshold for Inheritance Tax.  The allowance will be increased from €50,000 to €150,000 per parent for each child beneficiary.

Our view

This is welcome news but we suggest this is not a complete surprise given that Sarkozy had recently been elected on the back of tax reform mandates.

Broadly speaking and numbers wise, this brings the French inheritance tax system in line with the UK.
