Outgoing Mortgage Watchdog chairman Monty Burns has confirmed that he will be pushing for finance to become part of the National Curriculum. Mr Burns, who wrote and piloted, a new qualification for school pupils called the Foundation Certificate in Personal Money Management, has called that the whole of the country's UK schools should sign up to this.
Our View
We have made calls many times of both Government, the Treasury and the FSA to pilot the same. Management of money is significantly more important to more people and will be more helpful in life after school than learning how a little boy in East Africa is irrigating his crops. We appreciate that crop irrigation or establishing that water flows faster around the outside of a river meander and tends to be deeper, these are important but nowhere near as important as This is what a chequebook is and this is how to use it, This is what a mortgage is. These are the pitfalls. This is why you need to save in a pension scheme. Etc.
Money management, currently, is like having a baby. You get no training for it - yet you are expected to become experts over night after a few consultations. This is one of the reasons why we built . So that you can make informed decisions about your money in your own time before making any mistakes! Contact us if you need help or advice.
