According to research by Intelligent Finance, 70% of people want the Government to extend Isa's past 2010 to encourage more people to save. The Isa tax threshold is currently £3,000 for mini cash Isa's and £7,000 for maxi Isa's, but the company say that there is growing support for the limits to be increased. Sixty eight per cent of those who have used or plan to use their Isa allowance this year, would invest more if the mini-cash Isa threshold were increased to £5,000 or £7,000.
Our view
The limit of £7,000 is nearly 10 years old and is outdated. To encourage more to save, the time deadline of 2010 should be increased, as should the yearly savings limit.
