Ethical Investment Ignored: Pension Schemes

Published / Last Updated on 17/02/2008

Ethical investment is ignored by larger pension schemes according to a report by responsible investment campaigner FairPensions.

The report found that only 10 of the top 20 schemes have a policy covering environment, social and governance issues.  The charity found some funds had made significant improvements since last year, one of those being the British Airways Pension Scheme, jumping from ninth position to joint first.

Sharing the top spot for most socially responsible scheme was the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme and the BT Pension Scheme scoring 9 out of 10.  Barclays Bank UK Retirement Fund, BAE Systems Pension Scheme and National Grid plc Pension Scheme all scored less than one point out of 10.
