Employees Ignore Benefits

Published / Last Updated on 26/04/2004

Apparently, whilst almost 90% of employers mention staff benefits available to new joiners or those at interview, only just short of 50% remind staff on an ongoing basis.

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, this could be de-motivating for staff.

Our View

We recently commented about how few employees took advantage of their employer's pension scheme, despite many employers offering to match or exceed their employee's contributions.

Our experience of employees is generally 'can't be bothered', when it comes to talking about and joining pension schemes.  Many employees seem to look for ulterior motives as to why an employer would want to pay into their pension.

The real truth is that employer contributions are free money and should be grabbed with both hands.  If your employer is decent enough to pay into your pension, you should be taking advantage of it.
