Milton Keynes' General NHS Trust has come up with a novel way of saving money - they are expanding Doctors' job descriptions to include cleaning! It may sound like a joke but Doctors have been told to clean their own offices in a bid to save money.
The hospital fared badly in the recent NHS ratings and ended up with a no star rating. The trust was also said to be £7m in debt last year. The hospital did make a statement about trying to make themselves more cost effective.
Apparently, no further cleaning staff are to be recruited as part of their strategy of not recruiting for non-essential staff. For the existing cleaning staff, they will maintain the patient and clinical areas only. Existing staff will be asked to keep the other areas clean.
Our View
We just hope the doctors don't mix up the Marigolds with the surgical gloves! Seriously though, a good idea to save money.
