A reference pack is being launched advising companies on employing the disabled. Unum Provident are joining forces with Jobcentre Plus and the Employers Forum on Disability to help employers tackle subjects such as making adjustments to accommodate disabled employees, information on legislation and how to gain access to Government funding.

A recent survey, conducted by Unum Provident, revealed that one in three senior directors would opt for a non-disabled candidate when considering two candidates of equal experience for a job.

Unum Provident said that 36% of UK employers complain of staff shortages and that the Government would benefit from an extra £5 billion a year if 500,000 people came off incapacity benefit to work.

Over 1 million disabled people in the UK want to work but cannot find employment.
