According to the insurer Scottish Provident, claimants on critical illness polices are getting younger.
In December 2002 the average age for a claim was 42, as opposed to 44 in June 2002.
Women are said to claim on average, two years earlier than men at age 41 and that cancer is the number one reason for claiming. Children's illnesses come in at number six most popular but 90% of these claims relate to leukaemia.
