Business Owners Working Too Hard

Published / Last Updated on 24/11/2005

A new report by the Employment Law Advisory Service has warned that more than a third of small business owners are putting their firms at risk by working too many hours.

The study showed that the average working week for UK employers is 58 hours.   Some even said that they spent an average of 80-100 hours a week running their company.

The report has suggested that instead of helping their business thrive, it could actually be doing the opposite.   They have found that owner managers suffer higher degrees of stress, which in turn lead to more time off work.   The report concludes that Britains' longest hours culture could actually be costing the economy millions.
