In a survey carried out on behalf of the Institute of Directors, 49% of business leaders are intending to vote 'no' in any referendum on the EU constitution, and only 29% are happy to sign up. They also found that 86% of businesses thought regulation would increase under the proposed constitution, and believe that, as the UK is already the best regulated, and most competitive market in Europe, that EU regulation would have a negative impact.
Our view
This is a difficult topic. We understand people being fearful of new rules or areas that they do not know alot about. Our EURO cousins are forging ahead with commerce links that we also need to take advantage of or get left behind.
