Benefit Changes Hit Landlords

Lenders have warned that changes to the way housing benefit is paid to low-income earners could have negative implications for buy-to-let investors.  Changes were recently made where landlords previously received the tenants rent directly from the local authority, those renting now receive the allowance themselves, this could cause problems for buy-to-let investors.

Our view

Buy to let investment has been extremely popular in the last 10 years.  For those who let to benefit claimants, thy may now be moving into a more difficult period of revenue collection.
