Barclays Finger Login.

A new tool has been unveiled that allows users to access their bank accounts via a scanner. The device will allow customers to instead of using a password to use their finger, the scanner will then scan the users unique vein pattern and compare it against the one linked to the account.

Barclays will be the first bank to offer the device to business customers only, and is thought it will be offered to all customers at a later date.

The device is known as “finger vein authentication” and is a portable scanner the size of a tennis ball, it is plugged into a USB port on a computer and an near-infra-red light scans the users finger.

Worries over the device being able to be tricked by fraudsters using substitutes or copies are greatly reduced as the scanner will only accept a living finger.

The technology is still relatively expensive at the moment and the bank has said that business users will be charged for the convenience of the device. However, they have not revealed the prices of the fees.
