Bank of England Base Rates 19th Month

by Ashley Clark, Director

The Bank of England has confirmed that base rates will be held for the 19th consecutive month.

In addition, quantitative easing is ealso to be held at £200bn.

We suggest that whilst support is needed for the UK economy, this holding of low rates is fuelling inflation and whilst we may not be worried today, when the ecomomy does warm up, inflation will rise dramatically and interest rates will then have to rise very quickly and by a large amount.  Remember the late 1980’s? High inflation and interest rates are 16%.  These times may come back to bite us.
