Ban Investment Firm 087 and 084 Lines

Ban Investment Firm 087 and 084 Lines.

Research from consumer research group Which?  has found that up to 75% of telephone contact lines offered by financial services firms are higher rate 087 and national rate 084 numbers.

These lines cost money for most callers and even of mobile telephone “inclusive minutes” packages they tend not to be covered making it very costly when you telephone about insurance, investment, pensions or complaints.

The survey of nearly 250 larger firms has led to Which? making a call to financial companies to make it easier and cheaper to deal with them.

We used to have an 0870 number but it was never issued to clients, we always give clients normal landline and mobile telephone numbers.  We only issued our 0870 number to financial firms to make them pay to call us as they were forcing us to do the same.

The difference, is that we employ enough people to answer the telephone within three rings.  That is our standard.

We do not mind calling premium numbers but we object to then being held in a queue as there are not enough staff to take the calls.  It feels like every call centre you telephone has a stock answer service which explains you are in a queue during a busy period.

Why is this we ask?  We suggest this may be a “cash cow” for both financial companies and the telephone/mobile supplier that that you have.

To help you save money:

There is a website called “say no to 0870”.  You can even download “apps” for your smartphones to ensure you never call a premium rate line.  When you input the rogue number, it will search a database to offer you the landline account number that the 08 number is logged to.
