To add to today's other Abbey rumour with Britannic, fears abound in Scotland about the future of Abbey National subsidiary Scottish Provident.
There is speculation that Abbey may ask alternative fund management groups to take over the management of its £28bn client money. The fear is obvious - job cuts.
Rumoured to be in the frame for just taking over fund management are US based State Street, rumoured to be in the frame to buy the fund management arm are Britannic.
Our view
Sorry Scottish Provident employees, we really do not see things becoming easy for you in the near future.
The refocus merry go round will continue. Abbey continues to consider the positions of its subsidiaries, much the same as many large providers. It will all come out in the wash.
