A New Name On The Horizon For CGNU

Published / Last Updated on 13/03/2002

CGNU has unveiled a change of name for 50 of its international trading brands.  Aviva is the new name and it means "to breathe life" in Spanish and will hopefully be used from 31 October 2002.

The Aviva brand will be used internationally although the Norwich Union name will be staying in the UK.

Apparently, the CGNU name was never intended as a long term solution but was right at the time of the Commercial Union and Norwich Union mergers.  CGNU's Group Chief Executive said "the Aviva name, which is meant to invoke images of life, health and vitality, tested positively in consumer research around the world, bringing with it associations of life, vitality and living well.   This matches the aspirations we have for our customers".
