According to a recent survey of employees, 6 out of 10 would call in sick, despite being nothing of the sort! The survey covered one thousand employees and found that at least 60% of them stay off work with a cold or even a hangover.
Our View
This research was carried out by Developing Patient Partnerships and the Consumer Health Information Centre, concentrating on the message that these employees don't actually need to miss work when there are many pharmacy cures available to help you feel better. We think they may be barking up the wrong tree! Employees take days of sick so that they don't have to work - it's as simple as that. The majority of employees will get paid whilst they are off sick and this is the biggest incentive for throwing a sickie! If an employee feels undervalued, they will take more sick days. This is also the case where they feel underpaid. But, how many people take 'pretend' sick days when they are not going to get paid? Not as many, we are certain!
