150000 Miss Child Benefit Deadline

150000 Miss Child Benefit Deadline.

The closing date for registering for self-assessment for higher earners that receive child benefit closed at the weekend, as highlighted by us on Friday.

HMRC suggests that nearly 30,000 registered in the final few hours for self-assessment and over 150,000 missed the deadline.

This means that many people earning over £50,000 will face severe tax penalties and fines for not registering for self-assessment so that their tax codes can be adjusted or tax paid for child care benefits that they received since January, but should either

  • a) Have not received
  • b) Been reduced on a sliding scale between the £50,000 and £60,000 earnings thresholds.
