Lock In To Protect With Profits Bonuses

Published / Last Updated on 29/05/2019

With profits funds are made up usually of

  • A yearly/annual bonus and
  • A terminal/final bonus

Once added, the yearly/annual bonus cannot be taken away

BUT

The terminal/final bonus which is designed to vary and depends upon market conditions and whether there are profit reserves still 'stored' in the fund for when your policy matures/ends.

Terminal/final bonus can vary up and down, it can be taken away and even cancelled and replaced by a Market Value Adjustment penalty if markets tumble.

If a large part of your with profits fund is terminal bonus you should seek advice on whether you can lock it in.
