UK State Pension Age Changes

State Pension Age and Flat Rate State Pension Dates explained as well as a calculator.

There has been a raft of rule changes to state pension retirement ages over the last few years and we thought it was time to trawl through all the laws to explain how state pension age changes affect you and build a state pension age calculator.

When will you retire?  A simple list for all birthdays, including:

  • State Pension Age changes including those proposed in the Pension Act 2005, Pension Act 2007, Pensions Act 2011 and the Pensions Act 2013 following the government's announcements on bringing Flat Rate State Pensions forward to 2016.
  • Under current pension law, some State Pension Ages are specific dates, others are specific ages, months etc and fall on different dates as you reach a birthday or a certain number of months after your birthday.
  • State Pension Age Calculator: state pension ages have been gradually changing from age 60 (female) and age 65 (male) through to 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67 and 68.  In some cases your state pension age could even be in years, months and days e.g.  for someone born on 29th March 1978, your state pension age is 67 years, 11 months and 5 days on 06th March 2046.  You need to know your state pension age to plan retirement accurately.  Our calculator works out both your state pension age and the date.
