Respite Care, or 'relief' care, is generally care in your home. 

It is normally care given by the NHS, local authority or private sector to relieve people who are already caring for you such as friends of relatives.

It happens if the carer needs a break, a holiday or is actually unwell themselves.

  • State sector availability - Yes
  • Private sector availability - Yes
  • Who pays? This will depend upon what the main basis of care is.  If the existing care being offered already qualifies for NHS Health Care, it will normally continue to be funded by the NHS otherwise it will continue to be social care  i.e.  capital tested or self funded
