Lenders Voluntarily Suspend Repossessions Over Christmas

Published / Last Updated on 09/12/2021

Mortgage lenders via their trade groups, UK Finance and Building Societies Association have confirmed they will suspend all property repossession actions from Monday 13th December 2021 through to Tuesday 4th January 2022.

This action has been taken to try and help people through the festive season that have fallen onto ‘hard times’ during the pandemic.

It is hoped that the move will at least allow those hundreds of people facing eviction to have a more peaceful Christmas and New Year despite the difficulties to come.

The suspension of repossessions will apply to both residential mortgages and buy to let mortgages meaning that both homeowners and tenants can perhaps sleep well if only a few couple of weeks as well giving more time to plan their future and find alternative accommodation.

As ever, if you are in financial difficulty be that with a mortgage, credit cards, loans or overdrafts, do not ‘bury your head on the sand’, lenders and creditors can only help you ‘get back on your feet’ if you contact them.
