Pension Annuities _ 2nd Defeat for Government

Published / Last Updated on 01/03/2002

For the second time in a few weeks the Private Members Bill submitted by Conservative MP David Curry has been successful against Government wishes.  The Bill is for improved flexibility at retirement by trying to remove the need for all your pension fund to have to buy an annuity by age 75.  This Bill proposes to give you more flexibility at retirement.

The Bill was at Committee Stage and the Government were defeated by just one vote as one Labour member voted with the Tories.  The Bill is still unlikely to be successful, as mentioned in previous stories, as Government will no doubt bring the full force of their majority into play at further reporting stages.
