The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published (05/02/26) an easy-to-read guide on eligibility and how to claim UK state pension if you live overseas.

The guide contains:

  • Introduction including timescales on when to make your claim.
  • Before you claim including eligibility, credits in the UK and any credits you may have built up overseas towards your UK state pension.
  • How to claim including international telephone numbers and forms and claiming locally where/if you live in the EEA or other areas with a social security treaty with the UK.
  • How your pension is paid including payments to UK banks, overseas banks and frequency of payment

Comment

It is a very simple guide but it’s a start.  So many people who have lived and worked in the UK forget about the Social Security/National Insurance Contributions they made in the UK.

We suggest it will also reduce the volume of calls that the DWP receives for people overseas contacting them and not knowing what to do.
