£1bn Business Omicron Fund

Published / Last Updated on 21/12/2021

The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak has announced plans for £1bn of government support for businesses via your local authority if your business suffers due to covid-19 restrictions or slow downs.

Omicron has forced many people to change their social and shopping habits to reduce contact.  This has clearly impacted on both the High Street, hospitality and leisure.

The government support will provide additional funds for local authorities to offer grants of up to £6,000 per commercial premise to help with trade restrictions or impact over the coming weeks.

There is also additional funding for museums and theatres.

Comment

Many businesses have suffered from reduced footfall and/or cancelled bookings for both festive season vacations as well as parties so any help is welcome.

We suspect government plans are to let us all mix for Christmas but depending upon figures, they may and it is widely expected to introduce tighter restrictions or even lockdown in late December or January.
