The deadline for filing your tax return online for 2017-18 tax year is the end of January 2019 i.e.  just two weeks away.

If you need to complete a self-assessment tax return you must, if you have not already, check that you have everything ready to file your online tax return including your unique taxpayer reference (UTR) which is sent via post.

If you are filing on-line for the first time or you have lost your (UTR) you need to contact HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) immediately as you will need to allow time for them to post access details to you.

Penalties

HMRC will usually fine an individual £100 for filing their return late during the first 3 months and additional fines of £10 a day with a maximum of £900, followed by charges 6 and 12 months after the deadline can also be applied.

Filing your tax return via the paper method deadline has now passed.  It was reported last year 2.1million people left filing their return to the last minute which can cause added stress, delays and filing incorrectly.
