The E-Commerce Directive is covered in a specialist FSA E-Commerce Sourcebook and details the minimum requirements of the Financial Services Authority with regards to Electronic Commerce Activities.  

An Electronic Commerce Activity is defined as:

• “The provision of an Information Society Service from an establishment in an EEA State that is or would be a regulated activity”.  

An Information Society Service is defined as:

• “An activity that is normally provided for remuneration, at a distance and provided at the individual request of the recipient”.  

This FSA E-Commerce Sourcebook is therefore only relevant to firms that undertake electronic commerce activities.
