There are literally thousands of different pension funds available in the UK. Likewise, the charges deducted from a pension plan can vary also. Some pension plans can have extremely high charges and this can put people off.
The Government needed to encourage people to save more in their pension plans and therefore brought in new laws in 2001 that introduced lower style private pension plans that even a new born baby can have with really low charges.
